Waste

Production processes generate waste. As an authorized collector and treatment centre of dangerous and non-dangerous waste, solid and liquid material, sludge and waste oil, our company seeks the most economical and ecological solution for the transport and treatment. For this we possess all the necessary licences and authorisations in the 3 Belgian districts.

Through our contacts with inland and foreign treatment centres, we are able to provide our clients with a fast and adequate solution. Transport of packaged waste is part of our daily activities. As a registered transporter our transport is executed by personnel trained in ADR (agreement concerning transport of materials on the road) and VCA**(safety assurance system).

By in-service training and individual work preparation an optimal execution can be obtained. Registration, orderliness and safety are 3 milestones in the management of this waste centre.

We also dispose of a 24-hour calamity service Round the clock we can be contacted so an Intervention team with the right knowledge and qualifications can be put into action.

Soil

Smet Jet is an authorized soil remediation expert type II". Apart from the execution of official initial and in-depth soil studies we also deliver the necessary expertise for the conception and deliverance of soil remediation projects. Through our personal approach and direct communication you can count on a quick conclusion of each assignment. Naturally the soil study is carried out using the most modern technology in the field of research and reporting.

For the execution of the fieldwork we rely on experienced, dependable and motivated specialists. They carry out their task meticulously and make sure any possible hindrance during the works is minimized and that the least amount of visible marks of their activity are left behind. During the accompaniment of soil remediation projects we always pay plenty of attention to the health and safety aspect related to the personnel and their environment. For this we depend on our system as a qualified safety assurance VCA ** company in combination with the application of the "Achilles-protocol".

Along with being an authorized expert we are also a contractor of soil remediation works. However, we are mindful to keep our interests strictly separated. It is not permitted to be the accompanying study bureau as well as the contractor in the same dossier. For every assignment, starting from the basis of the remediation project, we construct a scenario which can be conferred with you and the accompanying study bureau.

Mobile sludge dewatering

With our dewatering installations we can obtain a reduction in the volume up to 95 %.

Depending on the type of sludge, dry matter contents between 30 tot 80 % can be reached. This way a product is formed which is easily handled and transported. Because of the high reductions in volume the transportation and treatment costs are minimized.

Every type of sludge can be tested in our laboratory without obligation. From this we can offer you a guaranty concerning the dry matter and dewatering costs, the necessary additives and the plan of execution.

Not only do we take on the dewatering but also if required the transportation, the treatment of the dewatered product, possible sludge-pumping on site. In short: a total waste service

PCB removal

WHAT ARE PCB’S ?
PCBs or polychlorobiphenyls were extensively used for industrial purposes in the nineteen thirties and forties. PCBs were used because of their specific qualities such as a low vapour pressure, a high boiling point, a good solubility in many solvents, a good thermal conductivity, a high insulation value and temperature resistance. PCBs are known foremost as a cooling liquid in transformers and condensators. Askarel, Pyraleen en Chlofeen are well known brand names.

TOXIC EFFECTS ?
PCBs enter our bodies through the food chain after which they accumulate in fatty tissues. These chemicals are hardly broken down in our bodies at all. The health risks are enormous. Extremely dangerous situations occur when PCBs are exposed to high temperatures. At that point very toxic dioxins are released. For that reason the use of PCBs has been banned and all existing apparatus have to be disposed of.

DESTRUCTION ?
Transformers are made of several different materials which can be recycled after the removal of PCBs. It is at this point that we can be of service. Many years of experience with these products allow us to remove and decontaminate transformers in a justified way and with all the necessary licences. We are also able to recycle the remaining cleansed materials and burn the PCB’s along with the cleansing liquids in an oven especially developed for this purpose. This oven incinerates the products at a very high temperature so any released dioxins are also destroyed. A specific washing installation cleans the gas to guaranty the lowest possible emissions .
